유럽의 유명 축구팀 구단주들에 대해 알려드리겠습니다.

맨체스터 시티 (Manchester City) – 아부다비 유나이티드 그룹(Abu Dhabi
United Group) 소속의 셰이크 만수르가 구단주입니다.

첼시 (Chelsea) – 토드 보흐리와 클리어레이크 캐피탈이 소유하고 있습니다.

리버풀 (Liverpool) – 페놀 그룹(Fenway Sports Group)이 구단주입니다.

바르셀로나 (Barcelona) – 바르셀로나는 회원제로 운영되며, 공식적인 구단주는
없습니다. 대신, 회장이 구단을 대표합니다.

레알 마드리드 (Real Madrid) – 레알 마드리드 역시 회원제로 운영되며, 회장이
구단을 관리합니다.

바이에른 뮌헨 (Bayern Munich) – 바이에른 뮌헨도 회원제 구단으로, 회장이
구단을 관리합니다.

이 외에도 많은 유명 구단들이 있으며, 구단주와 소속 기업의 변화가 있을 수 있습니다.

구 단 주 ?

구기 종목 구단을 운영하는 사람. 오너(Owner). 프런트의 일부. 단독 구단주의
경우도 있고, 컨소시엄 형태의 구단주도 존재한다. 내부적으로 직책은 주로
‘회장’, ‘대표(이사)’를 쓴다.

구단주(球團主)라는 한자도 그렇고 영어에서도 owner라는 표현을 쓰지만 한국
스포츠에서는 구단주가 구단을 법적으로 소유하는 사람은 아니다. 우리나라의
많은 구단은 대기업 계열사이며 구단 운영사의 대주주 내지 모회사의 대표이사가
구단주가 된다. 오너 경영 체제인 회사라면 수십 년씩 기업을 경영하는 구단주가
구단을 소유한다고 볼 여지도 있겠으나, 전문경영인이 구단주를 맡는 경우는 임기
동안 구단을 맡아 경영하는 사람에 지나지 않는다. 표준국어대사전의
“구단을 맡아 운영하는 사람”이라는 풀이가 정확한 셈이다.

그러나 이것은 프로 스포츠 자체 수익만으로 구단 운영이 되지 않아 대기업 
계열사로 운영하는 대한민국 등 국가의 경우고 미국의 4대 프로 스포츠처럼
프로 구단 자체가 독립적인 기업체로 운영하는 경우는 구단주=구단을 소유하고
있는 사람이 맞다. 아래 설명한 대로 이 정도 거대 구단이라면 100% 지분을 혼자
소유하는 경우는 매우 드물기 때문에 정확히는 프로 스포츠 구단이란 기업체의
대주주가 구단주라고 보면 된다.

K리그에 다수 존재하는 시·도민구단의 경우 구단에 자본금을 출자한 지방자치단체의
수장(시장·도지사)을 구단주라고 칭하지만 지방자치단체는 단체장의 소유물이 아니다. 
전국동시지방선거 내지는 보궐선거로 선출되고 임기가 끝나면 후임 단체장에게
구단주직을 이양해야 한다.

국가대표팀의 경우 해당 협회장이 구단주가 된다. 예를 들면 대한민국 축구 국가대표팀의
구단주는 대한축구협회장인데 이 때문에 HD현대나 HDC에 반 드립성으로 대한
축구협회를 추가하기도 한다.

미국 등 규모가 큰 스포츠의 경우 구단의 가치가 엄청나기 때문에 한 구단을 개인이
완벽하게 100% 소유하는 경우는 많지 않고 보통 투자액만큼 지분을 갖고 있는
정도가 된다. 아래에 나와 있는 매직 존슨의 경우 그가 속한 투자자 그룹이 다저스를
매입했기 때문에 사실 지분을 약간 갖고 있는 정도라 이런 사례가 되며 그 경우에는
보통 Part owner라고 불린다. 이런 구단주들도 Owner로 구분되기는 하지만
보통 언론에서 간단하게 Owner라고 불리는 사람은 마이클 조던처럼 구단의 대주주다.

선수가 소속 구단 지분을 가져서 선수 겸 구단주가 되는 경우도 있다. 하지만
대부분의 프로 스포츠에서는 승부조작등을 우려해 동종목의 현역 선수가 구단 지분을
매입하는 것 자체를 금지한다. 마이클 조던 역시 3차 복귀때는 원래 투자했던 
워싱턴 위저즈의 주식을 전부 백지신탁한다는 조건으로 선수 복귀를 허가 받았다.

정말 예외적으로 피츠버그 펭귄스는 재정난으로 해체 위기였던 1990년대 말
당시 과거 구단의 주장이었던 마리오 르뮤가 공동 구단주가 된 뒤 깜짝 컴백해
구단주 겸 선수로 활동했는데 그런 극히 예외적인 경우가 아니면 현역 선수는
동종목 구단주가 될 수 없도록 각종 금지 조항을 적용하는 편이다.

중국 갑급 리그에서는 현역 선수가 구단주가 된 것은 아니고 사업가가 축구 선수를
해보고 싶어서 구단주가 된 뒤 프로 경기에서 뛴 일이 있었다. 사업가 허시화(何世华)는
중국 갑급 리그의 구단 쯔보 추쥐를 구입해서 구단주가 된 뒤 2021 시즌에 등번호
10번을 달고 공격수로 6경기에 출장했다고 한다. 즉 선수 출신 구단주가 아니라
구단주 출신 선수인 것이다.
